Investigation into Digipacks

The encyclopaedia website Wikipedia states that “Digipaks typically consist of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside.”.
Digipaks are an alternative C.D and DVD case than the common jewel case, which is made of clear plastic. Digipaks were one of the first alternatives to the jewel case used by major record companies, but later also used for DVD’s. Usually Digipacks are used for C.D singles or special editions, and DVD premium packages which contain additional discs and information, however many artists and film companies simply use these instead of jewel cases. An example of this is the DVD Four Lions, which I have as an example below, and the most recent US version of Katy Perry’s album Teenage Dream.
Digipaks can have 4,6,8 or even more panels, which as well as the front and back cover, could consist of images of the artist/film, information about the product, lyrics and the discs. Below are two examples of DVD Digipaks:

Four Lions

The Four Lions Digipak consists of 6 panels which include the front cover, back cover, DVD slot and 3 images from throughout the film. This DVD Digipak does not give any information about the film due to many people feeling the film is too controversial, these include the BBC and Channel  4.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
The DVD Digipak for the first Harry Potter film consists of 8 panels and also an outer sleeve to put the Digipak into. This Digipak has a front and back cover, panels with the scene list for disc 1 and 2, additional information about the contents of disc 2, images from the film and both disc 1 and 2.
