Week Update

When we began to place the clips onto the timeline in Final Cut Express we realised we needed some footage to use at the beginning of the song before the artist begins to sing. Therefore yesterday we did some filming in the snow, this footage can also be used in places throughout the music video.

After gathering all of our footage over the previous 2 weeks, we continued to edit today. We began lip-syncing the clips to the song, and using split screen on some of the footage. This week we plan to complete our editing and therefore complete our music video. As well as this we are looking to plan for our ancillary task, which is to produce a digipack and magazine cover advertising our song and music video.

Filming on Location continued

Week Update

This week we edited more of the clips we had got already; including using chromakey for the weather woman shots. We also filmed the final parts of our footage, these shots include radio presenter, main performance, fashion designer, business woman and millionaire. We feel our filming was very successful this week, as we are pleased with the footage and excited about editing it down to the final product next week.

Filming on Location

Week Update

This week we have started to film more footage for our music video, we then began our editing of the green screen shot as we thought this would be more time consuming and we want it to look as professional as possible. We are planning to get some more footage in the next week and hopefully get the majority of the footage.

Feedback

I know you have made progress with your filming but you need to also keep working on the research and planning. There are still a lot of blank post titles here and you still are not tying your research in to your product and revamping posts in line with earlier comments. I would like to see some progress on this too by next week.

Filming- Green Screen Shots

Today we began the filming for our music video, which we all felt was very successful. We decided to film the certain shots we needed against the green screen today, as the set up of the Green Screen equiptment was fresh in our minds after only doing the training only a few days prior.  The two sections of footage we filmed against the Green Screen were 'Newsreader/Presenter' and 'Weather Presenter', as these are the only two careers in our music video which required a green screen.

When we begin to edit this footage we will insert a BBC News backdrop behind our 'Newsreader' shots, and a BBC weather map behind the clips of Taylor as a 'Weather Presenter'. As we have already chosen the images we are going insert onto the green screen, we know that the BBC logo or type is not used in any of them, therefore the colour palette used is the only recognisable link to the BBC.

Experimental Green Screen

Feedback

You still need to complete empty posts here and the whole would benefit from a bit of housekeeping - moving posts to create logical sections and deleting any redundant ones.... See me if you need to know how to reorder posts.

Some pointers:

  • the early sections analysing music videos in general still need major refocusing - rather than looking at rep and ideologies, you need to analyse them to see how Goodwin's theory applies and state at the end what you can learn from this for your video... this means changing the title and quite a major rewrite for each of these - your current posts are too narrowly focused and not tied into your own product.
  • Audience - you need to put the analysis post with the questionnaire post and define your target audience.
  • Indie pop section - Taylor's initial analysis of the genre is a good start but you could list more of the key features - costume, instrumentation, content of songs, settings, names of artists/ bands, colour etc... Is it worth looking at the elements that are indie and the elements that are pop and how they fuse? Analysis of videos also needs refocusing to reflect what features a re common in indie pop videos - please get rid of / minimise the focus on rep and ideology - it's not 100% relevant. You also need at the end to focus on what you can learn from this video and use in your own...
  • Institution  -Sam - post on Marina and 679 - why not use this as your Institution post - would this label also suit your artists - why? Consider the role of the label in creating music videos and why they want a video? Think about where you would place your video for maximum effect....
  • Sam - Telephone analysis - still needs to say what it is looking at and how this helps shape your own project.
  • Album Cover work - Kirsten - need to list the main conventions of front covers, back covers and inside covers - what do you need to include? Do the same for the post on album adverts too!
You have a good start on your planning with a strong storyboard, so please try and get all the blog posts sorted out over this week, so you cna devote all your time to filming and editing asap!
